Who are the most influential entities in the entire Bleach fandom? Well, it’s gotta be the Gotei 13! This organisation is the most referred to organisation out of all, with probably the Espada coming in second. The Gotei 13 have influenced events all over, both in the fandom and in WoR canon! So, speaking of WoR canon, most of you are probably wondering; what makes the Gotei 13 on WoR different from the Gotei 13 of Bleach? Surely there’s gotta be some differences. Indeed there are! And we will explore those in this blog!

WHAT THE GOTEI 13 DO

The World of Reapers Gotei 13 carry much of the same basic responsibilities as the originals. On WoR, the Bleach G13 still existed in our history, but were all quickly exterminated with very few survivors. In the present day, the Gotei 13 are the primary government body that oversees law and order in the Soul Society, alongside the Central 46. The Gotei 13 aren’t just responsible for policing though, they undertake a vast variety of different tasks and roles, such as the 12th Division doing research and development to create new tech and weapons, the 6th Division being responsible for escorts of nobles and guarding them, or the 1st Division being the leading squad of the Gotei 13 and responsible for judgement of all Soul Reapers.

While the roles of the original Gotei 13 are a bit vague, all of the WoR Gotei 13 squads have set and clear responsibilities and duties that could appeal to different people. Feel like being a fighter? Join the 11th. Fancy yourself one for rescue missions and guarding the arms bunkers? It’s the 7th for you! Or perhaps you want to be more like a stealthy scout? Then you need to be in the 3rd Division. There’s plenty of choice for each squad with various types of missions available all the time.

HOW TO JOIN THE GOTEI 13

Now that we know what the Gotei 13 does and some of the duties and responsibilities, how does one join the Gotei 13? Those of you that know the fandom will know that it’s quite a simple process once you graduate from the Academy, and over here it is slightly similar. Once you’ve graduated from the Academy, you can choose to take an extra two year class called Military Training. This will essentially be your tough-as-nails boot camp with your shouty Drill Sergeant Erina Nakahara (just kidding, she’s nice to everyone). This class will take you through all of the duties of the Gotei 13 and teach you exactly what life will be like as a seated officer! This will also give you the chance to properly decide which squad you feel most at home with! After those two years, you’ll need to ensure you’ve passed both the first and second year examinations, and then join the Wing Bind Alumni club to tell the Head Captain which squad you want to join.

Once that’s all done, you will be immediately placed as 20th Seated Officer in the squad of your choice and your rise in the ranks will begin! Anyone in the Gotei 13 can advance as high as 3rd seat and, in some cases, even Lieutenant! Take a look at the 5th Division Lieutenant, for example, who rose all the way from the 20th Seat for that position.

Anyone can make that impressive leap with enough hard work and tenacity, and remember that every squad welcomes all new officers! Remember, Academy, then Military Training. After that, welcome to the Gotei 13!
