Every epic story must have an equally epic setting, right? And what better place to have a story about Japanese gods of death than a separate realm in which all beings are made into formations of their inner souls and live for a good century or so before moving on to a new life? Yes, today we will be discussing the Soul Society itself!

THE STRUCTURE OF THE SOUL SOCIETY

So what exactly does the Soul Society entail? Well, our Soul Society is split into a number of different areas. First of all, we have the Seireitei. Think of this as the capital of the Soul Society. The Seireitei is located in the very middle of the Soul Society and houses all of the officers of the Gotei 13, the Central 46, and students at the Shin’o Academy. This is the central hub for all the governing of the Soul Society and training of all the personnel. Outside of the Seireitei is Rukongai. This is essentially everywhere else that is not Seireitei, where all the regular souls live their afterlife until returning to the Human World for reincarnation. There is also a smaller realm separate from everywhere else called the Noble Realm, where all of the Soul Society’s noble families live in their big, fancy, luxury homes!

Unlike the canon Soul Society, WoR’s structure doesn’t just hold Shinigami, but also houses Arrancar, Fullbringers, and Quincies! You may even get Witches from Reverse London living here as well for studying before moving over to Wing Bind.

WHAT MAKES THIS SOUL SOCIETY DIFFERENT?

Anyone on WoR will notice a lot of differences in our own Soul Society. For example, the Shin’o Academy is a big one. There isn’t a lot explored in the fandom about the Shin’o Academy, save for some descriptions of classes, a few facilities, and some other surrounding areas, but here we have the Academy fully fleshed out! Our Academy is split into various zones for different things such as the Strelitzia Zone, where you’ll find access to the library, and the Academy’s own trophy room where all the students' yearly accolades are kept. Or, there’s the Little London area, a section of the Academy remade to fit the needs of our Reverse London transfers where they can feel right at home! As well as give our local students a taste of life in the West!

The outer areas of Rukongai are quite different as well. The lore would have us believe that there is a finite number of districts in Rukongai, with only 80 per cardinal location, but here, that isn’t quite the case. Of course, all of your known districts such as Sakahone, Junrinan, Zaraki and all others are still there, but then we have some of our own districts that the users themselves have submitted to our S.S. Cartographer’s Club!

BUILD YOUR OWN SOUL SOCIETY

Yes, it is entirely possible to create your own districts! In a world that is supposed to have 320 districts, it is nuts that we only know of around 15 of them. So that’s why in an ever expanding dimension, anyone that has an undocumented district that they know of or even come from, can have it submitted for investigation and then placed on an official registry! We’ve discovered over 15 more districts in Rukongai! From the metropolitan giants like Kigyo and Raitoninguhiru district, to the grand mountains of Yūgurenoyama and peaceful lakes of Senteki. All of these districts bring their own cool and unique flavour to Rukongai and you can too by joining the Cartographers Society!
