ATSUKO FURUDA

Atsuko Furuda is the co-Lieutenant of the 11th Division. Originally born in Warsaw, Poland, she was sent to the Soul Society after her death, where she changed her name and started a new life.

In the Academy, Atsuko was consistently the top of her class, always achieving high scores, purely out of her own will to do well and make her parents proud in the hopes that she could find them in Soul Society. After graduating the Shin'O Academy and awakening her Shikai, she initially joined Division 4, making her way up the ranks there.

However, after an incident involving the death of one of her co-workers, she couldn't handle having to watch people under her care die any longer, so she quit after a mental breakdown. Yet she was found and recruited by Hikaru, who she had originally met during the small period of time during his leave from the Central 46 before his becoming Captain of Squad 11.

After joining the 11th Division, she began to rise the ranks at a meteoric pace, as she had always done- because no longer would she stand back and heal people. Instead, she would fight for them with her own two hands. Atsuko acts as Hikaru's voice of reason, but make no mistake, she's part of Squad 11 for a reason.
