Hollow Types
Hollow Types in Bleach - Complete Evolution Guide
Hollows are the primary antagonists throughout much of Bleach, born from human souls that lose their Chain of Fate and succumb to despair. They range from mindless beasts to incredibly intelligent and powerful beings. Understanding the Hollow evolution chain is key to understanding Bleach's power hierarchy.
Standard Hollows and Menos Grande
Standard Hollows are the most common type, identifiable by their white masks and the hole in their chest. When hundreds of Hollows merge together, they form Gillian (Menos Grande), towering black-robed creatures with identical masks. Most Gillian are mindless, but a rare few retain individuality and can evolve further.
Adjuchas and Vasto Lorde
Adjuchas are smaller, more intelligent Hollows that have evolved beyond the Gillian stage by consuming other Hollows. They must continue devouring others or risk regressing. Vasto Lorde are the rarest and most powerful natural Hollows, said to surpass Captains in combat ability. Their humanoid forms belie immense destructive potential.
Arrancar and the Hogyoku
Arrancar are Hollows that have removed their masks to gain Soul Reaper-like powers. While some achieve this naturally, Aizen used the Hogyoku to create the Espada and their Fraccion. Arrancar possess Resurreccion, a release that returns them to their Hollow form with massively amplified power.
